The impact of predation on small rodent population dynamics as exemplified by the root vole (Microtus oeconomus)
2011
Borowski, Z.,Instytut Badawczy Lesnictwa, Warszawa (Poland)
In the presented paper long-term root vole population dynamics was analyzed. Additionally the role of speciality predators (least weasel, stoat and avian predators) in root vole population dynamics in Biebrza National Park was tested. This root vole population exhibited endogenous five year cycles. This study is the first empirical analysis of inter annual cycles for the species. This research indicates that the two groups of predators, small mustelids and avian predators, are not able to generate negative feedback loops in endogenous root vole population cycles
