There are no valid data about yield of softwood logs in Serbia due to their small amount and specific conversion methods. The research on 30 fir logs 4 meter long was done. The logs were classified in three quality classes and they belong to third thickness category (diameter 30-39 cm). After measurements, the logs were converted in one-phase sawmill method and quantitative yield was measured in two ways: by using standard rounded dimensions of logs and sortiments Pist, and without rounding Pisv. Quantitative yield goes down together with quality of logs. Statistical tests showed significant difference only between the 1st and 3rd quality class - no matter of measuring method. The absence of significant differences between other classes is explained by influence of log sorting, primary sawing method and secondary conversion organisation.
