A lethal albino seedling mutant of maize that is resistant to imazethapyr was found in the material from the Maize Research Institute Zemun Polje, Belgrade - Zemun (Serbia), gene bank. The mutation was characterized by a normal development of the first two leaves, with white coloration appearing from the third to the fifth leaves, at the base of the leaves spreading towards their end, resulting in the death of the whole plant. While the upper leaves were dying, the first two were still green for eight to ten days. It seemed that the mutation was conditioned by one recessive allele.
