The paper illustrates the situation and development of the food industry in the Republika Srpska. The data gathered were systematized and analyzed in relation to: current agricultural potential, food production volumes, employment, import ane export of food products. The results obtained point to the possibility of advancement of the food industry of the Republika Srpska and provide a basis to su bstantiate possible directions of transformation and development of industrial companies. Based on the results obtained, the key problems of the food industry were defined and a development model was offered. The SWOT analysis method was used in order to describe the development model of the food industry of the Republika Srpska. The food industry's development model aims at an optimum use of the production capacities available, and increase of agricultural production volumes, transformation of the production structure in line with demand to the benefit of the most intensive productions, and high-quality end products in order to meet the domestic demand and to significantly increase the export of agricultural and food products.
