This paper discusses the specialities of paper coating drying. There are three methods in common, widespread use: IR drying (infrared radiation), air flotation drying, and cylinder drying. As the wet coating layer moves to the dryer section of the coater, formation of the final structure of the coating begins. The printability of the coated paper then results from this structure. In several studies at the pilot coaters and also at the production machines, it have been proved that drying strategy plays a vital role in the formation of this structure and in the properties of the coated paper.
