The paper analyses the production, processing and marketing of sweet and sour cherry in Serbia during the period of 2005-2009. The analysis included the following parameters: area under these crops, average yields, the cost per yield unit, the sales (market) proces and the financial viability for producers, potentials, weaknesses, and economic risks. By available data for the analyzed period, the absolute and relative indicators of production and processing, as well as the balance of foreign trade of Serbia in the fruit trade were given. The analysis of previous situation gave some relevant information about the problems that exist in the production of sweet and sour cherries, the main constraints, opportunities and ways of overcoming them. Finally, economic policies of promotion of fruit production in Serbia were given.
