Chlorine (Cl) is an essential microelement for plant metabolism. It plays an important role in photosynthesis and it may function as a counter ion in K fluxes in cell turgor. It can increase plant resistance to several pathogens. Chlorine deficiency is very rarely observed in vegetables. This is because Cl is widely present in the environment in rainwater, fertiliyers, pesticides and in the air.
