The researches were conducted in three common alder monocultures established by the deposition of the waste-rock from the open-pits of the lignite mines. The total annual yield of the litterfall, organic carbon and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium was studied. The ratio C/N and the hydrolyzed nitrogen forms were determined. In the organic soil layers and surface of soil covered by the common alder the seasonal dynamic of the number of the saprophytic microorganisms, which have the important role in the nitrogen cycle in the forest ecosystems, was studied.
