Empirical survey of the status of the old rural population was conducted by collecting and analyzing relevant and systematic data on the way and quality of life of the old rural population of Banat (Serbia), as well as the status they have in the family, community and society in general. The semi standardized interview was carried out according to the pre-arranged basis for scientific discussion consist of 98 questions. The empirical research is conducted in five villages: Secanj, Elemir, Ravni Topolovac, Srpska Crnja and Orlovat. The research is conducted on the stratified random sample of the 300 persons aged 65 years and over. Demographic characteristic of contemporary Serbia society are being analyzed based on the indicators of the aging of rural population. Also, the consequences of aging are pointed out. The social status of the old rural population is analyzed based on the empirical results of the research covering basic indicators such as: their educational structure, the last job before retirement, the number of children, number of household members, household type, the basic characteristics of their family farms and their current working activity. One of the indicators of their social status the quality of life and standard of living observed through the basic revenues and expenditures in the household, the assessment of their own financial capabilities, housing conditions and household equipment. In determining the social status of the old rural population, an important indicator is their health and their attitudes regarding the available health and social care services, as well as their perception of their own social status. The social life of the old rural population and they spend their free time is also being analyzed. In thesis, the analysis of the family status of the old rural population is also given.
