Presence of Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale was examined indirectly, serologically by ELISA test in 26 flocks of broilers. The presence of specific antibodies was determined in majority of examined flocks (61.54%), but there was small average number of individual seropositive chickens per flock (10% of all examined samples). Since the presence of the agent was determined indirectly by preliminary serological examination at epizootiologic region of South Banat (Serbia), additional three flocks of broilers were chosen, one flock with manifestation of respiratory disorders and two control flocks without respiratory disorders. For these flocks, whose state of health was observed, gross changes and microscopic changes of macroscopically changed respiratory organs were examined as well as the presence of specific antibodies to O. rhinotracheale. In the flock with manifested respiratory disorders (flock 1), high seroprevalence of specific antibodies for O. rhinotracheale (46%) was found in 30 day-old broiler chickens. Symptoms present were: depression, reduction in feed consumption and water intake, sneezing, mucosal nasal discharge and facial edema. Production results were below technological standards due to increased mortality, decreased growth range and increased number of stunted chickens. In control flocks (flock 2 and 3), where 4% and 8% seropositive chickens were found, there were no clinical signs which would indicate illness, and production results were much closer to technological standards as comparing to flock 1.
