During the 2004 and 2005 it was examined the effect of mulching with the polyethilen foil and direct covering of the plants with the agrotextile and the combination of afore mentioned on the yield, yield components and the quality of the potatoes of type Cleopatra. The research is made in the wider area of Begec (Serbia) by the randomized block system in five turns. The biggest yield during the both years of research period was gained by covering the plants with the agrotextile (47.33 tonnes/ha first year; 32.1 tonnes/ha in the second year of research). Compared to the control sample the yield in 2004 was 25% better with the applied agrotextile, 19% with the combined mulch foil and agrotextile and 6% with just foil mulch applied. In the 2005 the figures span from 25% (agrotextile), 10% (combined mulch foil and agrotextile) to 22% (mulch foil). Maximum number of early potato tubers was achieved by applied agrotextile cover (8.13), where the maximum in 2005 was achieved on the control sample (9.4). The biggest mass of tubers was achieved in the sample with the applied foil mulching, 917.48 g per plant in 2004 and 661.68 g per plant in 2005. Biggest daily mass yield was recorded on the foil mulch sample (22.54 g per plant in 2004; 15.97 g per plant in 2005). Examined treatments had significant impact on the quality of the tubers, i.e. increase of the dry content, starch and nitrates in the tubers and reduction of sugar content.
