The multidisciplinary and complex process of designing dams for water supply purposes comprises very detailed analysis of large number of alternative solutions and is based on numerous inputs and derived data. The thesis provides methods and procedures which will, up to the certain extent, automatize, standardize and improve the design process, making it more accurate and efficient. The application of prescribed methods will allow the decision maker at the very initial stages of project elaboration to have the clear situation related on selection the optimal solution of key strategic elements of the dam for water supply purposes i.e. exact dam profile location and dam height. The approach also offers a high degree of objectiveness and significant cost savings in necessary time and manpower resources. Defined method and procedures are based on application of appropriate specialized and commercial computer programs, as well as numerous data collected from the engineering practice and technical literature, organized in data bank. The model is open fro upgrading, input data actualization and, consequently, further increasing of automatzation level and efficiency of design procedure.
