Genetic factor being most important in determination of androgenous ability, the aim of this study was to investigate differences in androgenous ability between 20 heterozygous (F1 hybrids) and 24 homozygous genotypes (parents) in wheat (Triticum aestivum). Six hundred anthers were isolated from each genotype. Main androgenetic components were examined: androgenous capacity, callus yield, regeneration capacity, frequencies of green and albino regenerants and percentage of green regenerants. Cytological characteristics were also analyzed in green regenerants obtained from anthers of heterozygous genotypes. Significant differences were found between the genotypes with respect to the studied characteristics. Average value for most of the characteristics was significantly higher in the F1 hybrids than in the parents (androgenous capacity, callus yield, frequencies and percentage of green regenerants). The homozygous and heterozygous genotypes regenerated 8.28 and 20.77 green plants per 100 formed calli, respectively. The homozygote NS 30-95 and the heterozygote Banks x Pinzon Inta produced the highest numbers of green plants, 43.75 and 62.50%, respectively. The cytological analysis showed that, out of the total number of green plants regenerated from heterozygous genotypes, 42.76% were haploids, 53.79% were spontaneous double haploids and 3.45% were aneuploids.
