The complex of bovine respiratory disease (Bovine Respiratory Disease Complex – BRDC) includes a number of clinical entities bronchopneumonia associated with assembling a larger number of weaned calves, especially in feedlots. Economic losses are reflected in the morbidity, mortality, costs of treatment and prevention, productivity losses and reduced the value of carcasses of cattle. Only the productivity losses (not counting mortalities) cost the EU Bovine industry to 576 million Euros per year. Etiology indicates the primary role of the virus, because predisposes to secondary bacterial infections. The main factor is: bovine herpesvirus type-1 (BHV-1), parainfluenza-3 virus (PI-3), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), while the other viruses (adeno and bovine coronavirus virus) less important. Since bacterial pathogens are predominantly Mannheimia (Pasteurella) heamolytica, Pasteurella multicida, Histophilus somni (Heamophilus Somnus), and Mycoplasma spp. The benefits of research BRDC include: reduction of disease, better understanding of the pathogenesis of BRDC, the identification of new infectious agents and new strains of existing agents, the application of knowledge about the innate and adaptive immunity, the development of new vaccines and therapeutics, successful application of research results by producers and veterinarians to identify discoveries in veterinary medicine researches from medical and basic research.
