Influence of some stone fruit rootstocks on the vegetative characteristics of plum cv. Stanley and apricot cv. Krupna Skopljanka plant material

The influence of three vegetative stone-fruit rootstocks (GF 8/1, St. Julian INRA, and St. Julian Orleans) on the fruit plants of the plum variety Stanley and apricot variety Krupna Skopjanka was evaluated. Generative rootstock Prunus cerasifera was used as a control. The study was performed in the research station in the Institute of Agriculture Skopje (Republic of Macedonia) in 2007. The following characteristics were recorded: diameter of the rootstock and scion, height of plants, height of first branching, total vegetative growth of the plants, and development of the roots. In general, the effect of the different rootstocks on most of the analyzed parameters was variable. Plants grafted on GF 8/1 have the highest diameter of rootstock, with both of the species, statistically significant compared to others rootstocks. With both of the species, the lowest height of the plants is registered at P. cerasifera. The first branching at plum plants is highest with St. Julian Inra and it is statistically significant compared to other rootstocks. The first branching in apricot plants is the highest with P. cerasifera and it is statistically significant compared to other rootstocks. The plum plants grafted on GF 8/1 have the highest total vegetative growth. This parameter is highest with St. Julian Orleans, considering apricot. Plants have the poorest root development with P. cerasifera. The results have shown high statistical difference with both of the species.
