In this study was investigated antioxidant activity of methanol, hloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol roots extracts of G. asclepiadea, as well as the amounts of total phenols, flavonoids and flavonols. The highest content of total phenols and flavonols was determined in the ethyl acetate extract, while the methanol extract contained the largest amount of flavonoids. Ethyl acetate extract showed the highest total antioxidant activity of 401.3 mg AA/g and the highest inhibitory activity toward lipid peroxidation with IC50 value of 40.9 micro g/mL. These results showed that ethyl acetate extract can be a source of natural antioxidants and may find application in biological systems and food products.
