The aim is to present the medicinal properties of lycopene the carotenoid pigment from tomato. The paper points out the nutritional value of tomato fruit and its medicinal properties, with special emphasis on lycopene. Many scientists at the world renowed universities have dealt with this issue and arrive at significant conclusions. With this in mind we have come to the conclusion that the prevention of any disease good use tomatoes in the diet as often as possible, both in fresh and in processed form. Significantly, the lycopene is better for health, when used in processed form, for example, as ketchup, sauce and the like.
