Wild animals and birds can be valuable biological indicators of environmental gradients of toxic metal concentrations. The choice of a particular species for biological monitoring has been based on specificities of each area and their availability in every specific location and the study objectives and priorities. Total number of the examined samples was 76. Samples have been collected from 10 regions in Serbia during hunting seasons 2004 and 2005. Majority of samples (93 percent collected at the location in vicinity of coal mining area and steam power plant Kolubara, location Tamnava), contained cadmium in liver. Other examined samples (79 percent) from different (unpolluted) Serbian hunting areas did not contain cadmium.
