Two most important issues in Serbian apricot culture are late spring frosts that cause yield losses due to flower freezing injuries and tree dying (apoplexy). Annual apricot production in Serbia counts 24.000 tones. Average yield is 8.5 t/ha and has variable pattern due to frost injuries of flowers and buds or alternative bearing. Cultivars Novosadska rodna, NS-4, NS-6 and Novosadska kasnocvetna are represented in new plantations in the area of Vojvodina, where they have been selected. In order to improve apricot production quality and quantity, new apricot plantations should be established in appropriate agroecological conditions, using trees with interstem, virus-free plant material, combining cultivars, antifrost systems, spring and summer pruning, irrigation and grass cover. Plum is at the first place in Serbian fruit production now days, with average of 600.000 tones per year and 3.3 t/ha average yield. Cultivar Požegača should be further spread in new plantations, al though it has some disadvantages. Cultivars in plantations should be chosen ac cording to their purpose. Most frequent rootstock is Prunus cerasifera seedling. Intensification of production technology and introducing quality standards are necessary steps in improving plum production in Serbia. Only virus-free and PPV tolerant cultivars should be used.
