Development of two most important pests on dried fruits | Razviće najvažnijih štetočina uskladištenog suvog voća

Indian meal moth (Plodia interpunctella Hbn) and the dried fruit beetle (Carpophilus hemipterus L.) are the most important insect pests in our stores and ware houses on dried fruits. The experiments examined the possibility of development of these two types of insects in different dried fruits as a function of population density. The highest number of the dried fruit beetle off spring was obtained on raisins, smaller number on prunes, and the smallest on dried apricots. The most numerous off spring developed from the initial two and 10 pairs, at least with a set of three pairs. The number of offspring per pair is inversely proportional to the initial number of pairs. The average number of the dried fruit beetle offspring per pair was 19 times more numerous in dried apricots, 45 times in prunes and 16 times in raisins, comparing to the Indian meal moth.
