Probiotic fermented milk product of Imlek company (Serbia) named Balans Plus contains Bifidodigest complex: combination of two probiotic cultures (Lactobacillus acidophillus LA-5 and Bifidobacterium BB-12) and oligofructose which is so-called prebiotic. Product Balans Plus is clinically tested at Clinical Hospital Centre Bezanijska Kosa with the aim to establish its role in patients with gastrointestinal functional disorders (serious health conditions were previously excluded). Study included 50 male and female patients, aged from 18 to 75 years, who regularly consumed 500 ml/day of Balans Plus during 60 days period. Symptom estimation was based on a daily collected data in a form of a patient's diary and on a body composition analysis (Bioimpedance). Data received in this way were processed by descriptive and analytic statistical methods. By the end of the study we noticed normalization of stool consistency in 72% of patients, and 44,5% and 41,7% of patients had decrease of both incomplete defecation and constipation, respectively. We noticed complete relief of defecation pain, bloating and defecation non-related abdominal pain in 44,4%, 37% and 55,56%, respectively. Bioimpedance showed decrease of body fat which led to a decrease on a depression scale, with no negative side effects whatsoever.
