Integrated approach to prevention and control of pollution originating from industrial activities in the EU is defined by the IPPC Directive. This approach includes the change in the permitting system for companies, including a new legal instrument called environmental permit. Implementation of IPPC Directive in B and H started with the adoption of a set of environmental laws in both entities and Brcko District. One of the requirements for obtaining such permits is for the operators of plants and installations to use the best available techniques. This paper, using the example of one potato chips production company, discusses the applicability and efficiency of specific BATs used for treatment of heavily loaded wastewater and solid (bio) waste.
