Arboretum of the Faculty of Forestry of Belgrade University, Serbia, is a highly valuable dendrological archive of autochthonous and allochthonous tree and shrub species and a significant number of exotic species. This paper analyses its essential values, functions and risk factors. The concept of the Arboretum sustainable development includes the legal protection, further reconstruction and planned extension of the growing stock, together with a series of activities which will realise its educational, scientific, ecological, sanitation-hygienic and aesthetical functions.
