fects of plant hormones on activity of lipoxygenase (LOX) and on a content of 9-LOX mRNA (ribonucleic acids) in potato (Solanum tuberosum L., cv. Odissei) mini-tubers were studied. Model (incubation of disks cut from mini-tubers on hormone solutions) and vegetation (spraying with hormone solutions at various developmental stages) experiments were done. It was shown in the model experiment, that most tested plant hormones (auxin (AX), kinetin (KN), epibrassinolide, gibberellin and salicylic acid, PH) suppressed LOX activity. At the same time AX and gibberellin increased a number of 9-LOX gene transcripts, whereas the PH reduced it. Principal differences between AX and KN action were revealed under conditions of the vegetation experiment. KN affected similarly both the LOX activity and the number of 9-LOX transcripts in the both experiments. AX action was opposite: the highest content of 9-LOX gene transcripts corresponded to the lowest enzyme activity. The results obtained show a great PH influence on different stages of 9-LOX gene expression. KN affects enzyme activity via its effect on a level of transcription, whereas AX controls LOX activity on another level, although it affects a content of transcripts as well.
