In 2007-2009 the effect of hilling-up by soil (control), softwood sawdust, rice husk (RH) and sunflower husks (SH) on layering rooting of the clonal rootstock MM 106 was studied. First hilling of uterine plants was carried out in the period, when growing shoots had reached 0.2 m; the height of hilling-up was 0.15 m. After 35-40 days the second hilling-up was done at the height of the shoots of 0.40-0.50 m and the total height of hilling-up was 0.25-30 m. The highest yield of rooted cuttings was fixed at hilling-up by RH (11.1 units per an uterine plant). When hilling-up was done by RH the yield of rooted cuttings was 146.0% in relation to control, when sawdust and SH were used, the yields were 122.4% and 117.1% respectively. Hilling-up by soil, SH and RH resulted in 144 400, 169 100 and 211 000 rooted cuttings/ha. When hilling-up by RH, the follow parameters were fixed: the maximum yield of the standard layerings (158 900 per hectare), the maximum profit of 588 800 rubles per ha and profitability of 159.6%. When using sawdusts and SH, the profits were 588 800 rubles/ha (159.6%) and 548 900 rubles/ha (153.9%) respectively. RH was concluded to be the optimal substrate according a number of the parameters.
