An experiment was undertaken at Shendi Research Station Farm in season 2007/08 to evaluate the efficacy of Stomp aqua 455CS and Safi 50%EC, formulations of pendimethalin, on weed control in transplanted onion. Stomp aqua, Safi and Stomp at 0.75 kg a.i. per fed without supplementary hand weeding gave excellent control (96-100%) of grasses throughout the season. The products effected good control (70-72%) of broad-leaved weeds early in the season. However, the control of broad-leaved weeds late in the season was satisfactory (62-68%). The herbicides treatments when supported by hand weeding maintained excellent control of broad-leaved weeds throughout the season. The products of pendimethalin formulations had similar activity against weed. All tested herbicides treatments reduced weed ground cover and weed biomass by 66_94% and 55-61%, respectively. The bulb yields of the herbicides treated plots were significantly higher than that of the unweeded control and comparable to that of the weeded control
