Effect of polymer-coated fertilizer on aboveground and root biomass of strawberry (variety of Clery) was investigated in pot experiment with brownsoil in 2009. In addition, yield of mature strawberry fruits and content of vitamin C in them were determined. There were examined three treatments in the experiment: 1st treatment-unfertilized control, 2nd treatment-application of 1.65 g N per pot in the form of polymer-coated fertilizer and 3rd treatment-the same rate of N per pot (1.65 g N) in the form of classic granular fertilizer. Polymer-coated fertilizer (Duslocote) provided strawberries with adequate nutrition during the whole growing season resulting in five-times higher yield of mature fruits in comparison to classic granular fertilizer (Duslofert Extra). Duslocote also stimulated ripenning of fruits (56% portion of mature fruits) against Duslofert Extra (23.5% portion of mature fruits). However, content of vitamin C was higher in fruits of strawberries fertilized with Duslofert Extra (62.27 mg/100 g FM) by 8.2% in comparison with Duslocote application (57.57 mg/100 g FM). Aboveground as well as root biomass of strawberries was formed earlier and in higher quantities when polymer-coated fertilizer Duslocote was applied providing thus the plants in this treatment with competitive advantage resulting in the highest yield of mature fruits.
