Shortly before a highly excessive wind disturbance on 19th November 2004 no outbreak of Ips typographus was documented in Tichá dolina valley, Tatra Mountains, West Carpathians. Between 2005 and 2009 we sampled bark beetles in the monutain spruce forest modified by the wind in November 2004 strongly (approximately 95% of trees wind-felled), partly (30-40% of tress wind-felled) and in the forest not modified by the wind (no trees wind-felled control). Non-baited flight interception traps set for bark beetles in those three situations yielded a total of 8,580 individuals and 24 bark beetle species, of which 21 are developing in Norway spruce. We present here the total yearly catches of bark beetles (all species together) and separately the catches of Ips typographus and Pityogenes chalcographus after wind disturbance over the period of five years. Most individuals of bark beetles, and also most individuals of I. typographus and P. chalcographus, were sampled in the forest partly modified by the wind. The catches of I. typographus, and also those of P. chalcographus, peaked in the third year after wind disturbance.
