Objective of this study aims to investigate the biological activities and the polyphenolic content of the rind, flesh and seed extracts of star apple. The result showed that polyphenolic compounds were found in all extracts of star apple. In particular, the rind extract had the significantly highest content of polyphenols among three extracts. According to the total polyphenolic content, the highest DPPH scavenging activity was shown by rind extract about 80 percent. Meanwhile, the extract from flesh (71 percent) was slightly higher antioxidant activity than seed extract (68 percent). All extracts were determined for antibacterial activity by disc diffusion method. The potent inhibitor of Salmonella typhimurium growth was the rind extract whereas that of Staphylococcus aureus growth was the seed extract. Both Bacillus cereus and Escherichia coli were clearly inhibited by flesh extract. Therefore, star apple fruit is the rich source of polyphenols which posse the antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Star apple is excellent fruits for the further research and application.
