Determination of allelopathic potential of Polygonum cognatum meissn. | Polygonum cognatum meissn. (madımak)'un allelopatik potansiyelinin belirlenmesi

English. Polygonum cognatum Meissn, called 'madimak' in Turkish, is an important edible ethnic plant in Turkey. It is known that phenolic compounds have phytotoxic effects on other plants, and madimak is rich in phenolic compounds. However, there were no studies related to allelopathic effects of the plant. Thus, water extracts of above ground (young stem) and underground (root + rhizome) plant parts of madimak were used in petri dish experiments in 5 different concentrations (0% _ control and 1%, 5%, 10% and 20%) against seeds of 8 weeds and 8 crop species to investigate allelopathic potential of madimak. Prior to the application of the extracts, seeds were placed on the top of two layers of paper to understand the inhibitory effects on seed germination. Seedlings of tested plants were placed between two layers of paper to evaluate the inhibitory effect of extracts on seedling growths. At the end of the experiments, germinated seeds were counted and/or root lengths were measured.

Turkish. Anadolu'da yenen bir bitki olarak halk kültüründe önemli bir yere sahip olan Polygonum cognatum Meissn. halk arasında madımak olarak bilinmektedir. Madımak diğer bitkilerin gelişimi üzerine olumsuz etkileri olduğu bilinen fenolik bileşiklerce zengindir. Ancak bu bitkinin allelopatik potansiyeline ilişkin bir çalışma bulunmamaktadır. Bu çalışmada madımağın alleopatik potansiyelini belirlemek amacıyla, toprak üstü (genç sürgün) ve toprak altı (kök +rizom) bitki aksamlarından elde edilen su ekstraktları petri kaplarında 5 farklı konsantrasyonda (0% _ kontrol ve %1, %5, %10 veya %20) test bitkilerine ait tohumlara uygulanmıştır. Denemelerde test bitkisi olarak 8 yabancı ot türü ve 8 kültür bitkisi kullanılmıştır. Ekstraktların çimlenmeye olan etkilerini belirlemek için yapılan denemede tohumlar petri kaplarında iki kat filtre kağıdı üzerine, fide gelişimine olan inhibitör etkilerini belirlemek için yapılan denemede ise genç bitki fideleri iki filtre kağıdı arasına yerleştirilmiştir. Daha sonra petri kaplarına ekstraktlar uygulanmış ve denemelerin sonunda çimlenme oranları ile kök uzunlukları belirlenmiştir.
