A study was conducted on the variation in milk productivity of two groups of 15 ewes each – 1st group Tsigai and 2nd group F2 crossbreds - Tsigai x Chios at the 2.5- and 3.5-year age. The study was made during the milking period April, May and June in 2008 and 2009. During the experiment, the animals were raised by grazing, without supplemental feeding. Milk quantity was recorded on the basis of monthly tests and individual samples were taken for determination of physicochemical composition. The objective of this study was to investigate the variation in milk productivity of Tsigai ewes and their F2 crossbreds - Tsigai x Chios and physiochemical characteristics of milk during the milking period. It was found that there was a tendency to a higher milk yield and content of total protein, casein and calcium in the milk from F2 dairy crossbreds, as compared to Tsigai ewes during the milking period. The milk from the crossbreds had better syneresis. The milk from the Tsigai ewes during the milking period had relatively better characteristics of dry matter, milk fat and lactose, as well as better curdling capacity.
