The research was conducted in the period 2006-2008 in Agricultural Experimental Facility Khan Krum, region Shumen. The research includes the accredited varieties Burley 420, Pliska 2002 and Preslav 2002. The varieties were created by the method of simple and complex inter-variety hybridization, and multiple individual selections. The tobacco was harvested at technical maturity in three separate harvests. Then the average yield and qualities of the dried leaf were analyzed. The average price and yield per acre were calculated. The dry leaf was analyzed to determine the following indicators: Nicotine content – by the Koresta method, soluble carbohydrate content – by the Shorle method, total nitrogen – by the Moore method. The analysis proved that the average yield of the analyzed varieties, both throughout the years and in terms of average for the analyzed period, were 20.2 to 22.4% higher than the standard Burley 21. Sort Burley 420 is characterized by the lowest variation coefficient, i.e. it had the most stable yield throughout the research period, as compared to the standard Burley 21. The average quality of the dry leaf for the period is highest for the Burley 420 variety. As a result, the average price for the variety is 8.0% higher than that of the standard Burley 21. In terms of yield per acre, Burley 420 takes first place with 32.25% more than the standard, followed by Pliska 2002 with 24.2% and Preslav 2002 with 15.7% higher yields. The chemical analysis of the dry leaf shows that the researched varieties have a balanced chemical composition and meet the basic criteria of this tobacco type – high nicotine content and low content of soluble carbohydrates.
