Asparuh is new winter brewing barley variety created by the method of intervariety hybridization at the Institute of Agriculture – Karnobat. The variety was registered as original during 2009. In locations of Executuve Agency for Variety Testing, Field Inspection and Seed Control trails manifests as a productive genotypes with proven higher yields than the standards Obzor, Emon and Kaskadyor 3 with about 12.6%. During the testing period new variety realized grain yields to 10.53 t/ha. Asparuh has high winter hardness and cold tolerance and has very good malting quality of the grain. The volume of extract is high – 79.5% and mean significant content is 11.3%. The new variety is suitable for being grown at all over the country, if the technology for winter barley is observed.
