In soil and climatic conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were presented results of study of the effectiveness of basic elements of cultivation technology of winter barley (Hordeum vulgare). The optimum sowing terms of this crop in different regions of the country were specified and sowing rates of seeds providing the highest grain yield were determined. Appropriateness of use of modern high-effective seed protectants and fungicides as well as the need for nitrogen fertilizers taking into account moisture content in plants in spring were shown. Research results showed that the generalization of scientific research results showed that sowing terms of this crop should be determined for each region individually, as they much depended on the concrete conditions of growing. The necessary element of the technology of winter barley protection should be the pre-sowing seed treatment with highly efficient preparations against Fusarium mold and other diseases. Sowing rates of seeds of winter barley depended on soil and climatic conditions, sowing terms and could change with the boundaries of the Republic from 4 up to 5 million /ha of germinable seeds. The optimal dose of nitrogen fertilizers was N120 in the conditions of technology which did not include application of plant retardants and intensive fungicide use.
