In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were presented results of studies of wintering of mixed-age European catfish (Silurus glanis) in pond breeding farm conditions. There was determined dependence of wintering results on various factors. In course of the experiment there were used fingerlings, two- and three-year old fishes and producers of European catfish. Optimal conditions of wintering were defined. Research results showed that wintering of mixed-age fish could be realized in usual wintering fish ponds both in monoculture and polyculture conditions together with even-aged and elder-aged groups of other fish species which were reared in fish breeding farms in accordance with the developed standards. Efficiency of wintering of European catfish fingerlings depended on average mass, uniformity of dimensions, as well as on dehydratation of pond bed. In order to avoid cannibalism which lowed wintering results indexes it was forbidden to place into one and the same pond European catfish fishes which substantially differed in the their sizes. The admissible fish-holding density of fingerlings, two- and three-year old fishes was 20-30 centner/ha, and producers – 6 centner/ha.
