In course of the research there were examined theoretical and technological issues of selection concept of successful breeder Ivan Konstantinovich Koptik, who works in area of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) selection. The concept presents scientific approaches and the practical experience of selection activity. The system of complementary varieties of winter wheat designed for the Republic of Belarus with the list of their positive qualities was presented. It was recommended to apply moderate volume of hybridization on 100-130 combinations; as a productive method of selection to use intervarietal hybridization of soft wheat with selection of elite plants in F2; to use difficult crossings in the form of double and threefold combinations on a backcross type; to apply selection of plants in the conditions of repeated crops on wheat (monoculture) for revealing of ability to overcome limits; at allocation of valuable genotypes to pay attention to density; in selection on productivity to conduct selection of forms on an average index of ear productivity, high quantity of grains, high weight of 1000 seeds, to involve the hybrids of the first generation as the parent form at difficult crossings; to use at hybridization an intensive variety of the west European origin as one of parental forms.
