An economic study of the costs of production for some medicinal and aromatic plants in Egypt

The study investigated the production costs of some medicinal and aromatic plants and the governorates of Fayoum and Beni Suef. As well as the study of productivity and economic efficiency of the growers of these plants in governorates of the study. In addition to identify the most important production and marketing problems faced by growers of medicinal plants and aromatic plants.The findings estimated cost functions for the study crops 73%75% of the growers of marjoram and chamomile and not reach the optimal production volume, while the proportion of these farmers for' mint and Geraniums reached 37%, 59%, respectively. None of the producers of marjoram and chamomile fulfilled the volume of maximum profit, while fulfilled by nearly 17% and 4% of the growers of mint and Geraniums, respectively. These results may infer the low productivity and economic efficiency of marjoram and chamomile production. Therefore it is recommended to make a greater effort, by both the farmer and extension beacons and Research bedies of the Ministry of Agriculture to increase productivity through development of high-productivity, varieties and more efficient use of factors of production agriculture, including the process used to increase efficiency and productivity of farmers for maximizing net Earnings of the product one hand, and reduce the unit cost, or another and thereby increase the competitiveness of these plants foreign markets.
