Patrimonio natural en la Raya Central Ibérica: un activo turístico en el espacio fronterizo de Extremadura-Alentejo-Región Centro

En nuestros días el desarrollo económico entorno a las diferentes acciones que conforman la actividad turística se está convirtiendo en un sector estratégico para el mantenimiento de determinados espacios que por sus características socio-económicas no han participado del progreso acontecido en otras zonas al amparo del desarrollismo industrial pujante en ese momento histórico. Sin embargo esa situación a priori de desventaja ha permitido que territorios como el espacio fronterizo que conforma la Raya Central Ibérica se perfile en estos momentos como un valor en alza como resultado de su abundante riqueza natural y patrimonial. En definitiva mediante esta contribución se pretende identificar el ingente patrimonio natural existente en el espacio fronterizo de las regiones hispano lusas de Extremadura, Alentejo y Región Centro, en concreto en las provincias españolas de Cáceres y Badajoz, y los distritos lusos de Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora y Beja para su aprovechamiento como activo turístico en beneficio de un territorio históricamente deprimido como resultado de encontrarse localizado en la periferia de los principales centros de actividad económica de la península.

Nowadays the economic development of tourism is turning into a strategic sector for the maintenance of spaces that, for its socioeconomic characteristics, have not taken part of progress of other zones with any more industrial development in this historical moment. Nevertheless this situation of disadvantage has allowed that territories like the Raya Central Ibérica border space should be in these moments a top value as result of its abundant natural and patrimonial heritage. Definitively, in this paper we try to identify the existing natural heritage in the border space of Iberian regions of Extremadura, Alentejo and Region Centro, specifically in the Spanish provinces of Caceres and Badajoz, and the Portuguese districts of Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora and Beja. We also try to determine the utilization of the border natural heritage as tourist assets in benefit of a territory historically depressed as result of being located in the periphery of the Iberian Peninsula principal centres of economic activity.
