Crayfish are a group of giant crustacean , which distributed in freshwater and marine ecosystems. Economical value of this group , listed them as luxury marine foods . More than 100 species of crayfish inhabitant in freshwater bodies , and the maine species of Iran is Astacus leptodactylus , which lives in Anzali lagoon , Ars lake dam , and some parts of Caspian Sea. Commercial harvesting of this species from Aras lake is obout 200 tones , and mainely exported to Europe. Various attempts on aquaculture of crayfish conducted in research scale , but the condition of extension and development is not acquired yet. As the economical importance of this species , compilation of strategic plan emphasized. Hence , past and present condition of crayfish in sense of biology , ecology , fisheries , production discipline , bottleneck and problems reviewed , and projects on research and development proposed.
