Investigation of the effect of diflubenzuron (Dimilin SC48%) for controlling of codling moth

Codling moth (Cydia pomonella L.) is the key pest of apple orchards in Iran and almost of all apple growing districts of the world. Until recent years, the chemical control by using broad spectrum insecticides had been the basic method for control of the pest. In this project the efficacy of an insect growth regulator diflubenzuron (Dilmilin SC 48%) at 500 ppm was evaluated in comparison with a neonicotinoid, thiacloprid (Calypso SC480) at 300 ppm, phosalone (Zolone EC 35%) at 1500 PPm and check against codling moth in Orumieh, Iran. The experiment was carried out in a complete randomized block design with 4 replications and 4 treatments. The percent of infected fruits was calculated based on the total infected and uninfected fruits for each plot. According to the results the damage of codling moth in all three insecticide was significantly less than the untreated check. The thiacloprid (Calypso SC480) showed the highest rate of control against codling moth and located in a separate group. There was no significant differences at 5% level between diflubenzuron (Dilmilin SC 48%) and Phozalone (Zolone EC35%) efficacy against codling moth. So Dimilin could be used against codling moth as an alternative for organophosphate insecticides in apple orchards.
