Study on safflower varieties in spring sowing in the farmer fields under rainfed conditions

Safflower can be planted as a spring and winter crop under condition of cold, semi-cold and warm areas of In cold areas when the winter is very low and first effective winter rain is late there is risk of cold damage in winter crop. In this areas spring planting is recommended. This study carried out with 5 promissing varieties of safflower alongwith chek variety (Esfahan Local) in three locations of Kermanshah provience in farmer fields under condition. This was in RCBD with 4 replications each variety was planted in 16 rows with 6 m length and 30 cm row spacing. The results showed that chek variety (Esfahan Local) had the low seed yield in all locations. This was due to low seed weight and less number of heads per plant. The Syrian variety showed good seed yield in three locations. PI-250537 and PI-537598 also had good seed yield and were selected as supperior varieties. Gila had the highest oil content and Syrian showed the highest oil yield
