Water deficit stress effect on sunflower hybrids.

Water deficit stress effect was evaluated on qualitative and quantitative characteristics of sunflower commercial and new hybrids in SPII farm during 2004 to 2005. The hybrids were compared at two separated experiments in 2004. In the first experiment, all of plots were irrigated after 60 mm evaporation from pan, class A during growth (control) and in the second, they were irrigated after 180 mm evaporation from pan, class A. In the second year, the hybrids were comparing at three water conditions. The plots were irrigated after 60, 120 and 180 mm evaporation from pan, class A in the first, second and third experiments, respectively. The result indicated that plant height, leaves number and head diameter, seed number per plant, seed weight yield and its components and harvest index were reduced by water deficit in two years. Azargol and Allstar produce the highest yield in all water different condition in the first and second years. There were significant positive correlations between yield in different water conditions and mean productivity, geometric mean productivity and susceptibility tolerance indices. Therefore the commercial hybrids as Azargol, Mehr and Allstar had high production potential. A75×R196 and A74×R95 hybrids were superior to other hybrids in all water condition.
