Determination of the best pollinizer and evaluation of pistillate flower abscision of walnut selected enotypes.
2010
Hassani, Darab
The pollnation in walnut is very important, being a monocious species. On the other hand this species produce lower amount of pistillate flowers respect to other species that make more attention on it's pollination. This study was done with the aim of determining the suitable pollinizer for 15 cultivars and promising genotypes in kamal shahr station. Besides, the pollen shedding period of about 1000 other walnut genotypes in the station were determined in 4 years. Among 15 cultivars and promising genotypes, Z53 and Z30 were protogynous. Ronde de Montignac were homogamous and the others were protandrous. The receptive period of pistillate flowers were varyg in the cultivars and genotypes, so that Z30 and Z53 sooner and Fanquette were the lstest cultivar. Pollen shedding was started in B21 and ended in Ronde de Montignac. Evaluation of pollen shedding in the genotypes in collections showed a good vaiation of about one month in beginning pollen sheeding in early genotypes to the end of pollen shedding end in late genotypes. The results showed that Ronde de Montignac is a suitable pollinizer for late flowering cultivars like Chandler, Pedro and Hartley. For Native promising genotypes Z30 showed to be suitable pollinizer and could be used in new plantations.
