Clinical and subclinical mastitis continues to be a problem in dairy-farming worldwide and in Latvia, too. Mastitis causes economical looses and is the risk factor for consumers’ health due to the pathogenic bacteria getting in the raw milk. Our research revealed that replacement of predominating agents of mastitis from the genus Streptococcus to the genus Staphylococcus has been occurred in Latvia. The role of coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS) as the subclinical mastitis agents has increased during the last four decades. Incidence of CoNS increased from 16.6% in 1980ies to 62.7% in the last years. Incidence of such mastitis pathogens as Listeria spp., int.al, Listeria monocytogenes and Listeria ivanovii, as well as Bacillus cereus and Aeromonas hydrophila has increased during the last decade.
