Reviews the present status of food losses both at the pre- and post-harvest stages in African countries. Looks into the main problem areas and the mainly affected cereal crops and the effects this has on African economy. Plans future strategies for assessing and monitoring crop losses and for applying these activities to agricultural development programmes aimed at increasing food crop production.
