A total of 396 accessions of indigenous forage legumes were collected of which 380 have been identified. Different accessions of Centrosema, Calopogonium, Pueraria, Cajanus and Aeschynomene collected were planted and evaluated botanically and agronomically. These botanical characters are the following leaflet size, terminal leaflet length, pubescence, petiole color, color of petiole/leafblade joint, color of basal petiole, petiole length, leaf shape, and hypocotyl color. Protein contents of all Centrosema accessions were comparable percentage of ash was relatively high (ranged from 8.63%-10.60%). Accessions of Leucaena were very variable in terms of protein content (16.5-25.6%). Percentage of ash ranged from 5.0-8.4%. Percentage of mimosine was relatively higher (ranged from 2.32-4.98%) compared to the giant ipil-ipil previously. A wide variation (51.33-84.14%) on the percentage of digestible matter was noted. Differences among accessions were also observed in terms of the percentage of crude fat and crude fiber (12.3-23.2%).
