The past few years the Surinamese economy has faced a lot of problems. As a result of the decrease of the nominal income, the increase in the cost of living and a drop in the purchasing power, there has been a notable increase in the number of small businesses. Most of these entrepreneurs however lack the experience or the schooling in the techniques to start or manage small businesses. One of the objectives of the I.I.C.A. is the assisting and guiding of small entrepreneurs. The I.I.C.A. gives training courses in the starting, financing and marketing of small businesses. This project will primarily focus on the training of instructors from different private and governmental service departments. This report discusses this training and also the following topics: a review of the structure and different work terrains of the I.I.C.A., the aspects of smallscale businesses, a description of the training project in Jamaica as a foundation for the training in Suriname and an explanation of the proposal of the I.I.C.A. head office.
