Effect of EMS and DES on germination, growth, fertility, and yield of lentil var. K85 (Macrosperma) [Lens culinaris].
1990
Vandana | Dubey D.K.
Seeds of Lens culinaris Med. var. K85 (macrosperma) were treated with ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) at 0.05, 0, and 0.25 and diethyl sulphonate (DES) at 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75. Germination and seedling growth was promoted by the lower doses of mutagens, while higher doses had pronounced adverse effect. Survival, pollen fertility, and maturity were adversely affected by both mutagens. Plant height, branching, number of leaves, pods, and seeds as well as yield per plant showed varying response to different concentrations of mutagens.
