Nizamuddin A.
Wheat lines were grown in Joydebpur, Bangladesh and Moscow (USSR) and compared for protein content. Under Dhaka conditions protein content in seeds varied from 12.5 to 22.7% in 1981-82 and 13.4-23.2% in 1982-83 on dry weight basis with an average of 17.6 and 17.9%, whereas under Moscow conditions in 1982-83 the range was from 8-19.9 to 10.8-20.4% with an average of 21.9 and 15.5%, respectively. Three out of 121 lines were found to be highly useful genetic sources of high protein with more than 16% under both the conditions and may be used extensively as parents in crosses. These include: Egypt Na-101, Hadden and Fremont (USA).
