Experiments were conducted to study the effect of the amount of sodium hydroxide and anhydrous maleic acid used, on qualities of ordinary and fortified rosinsize (used in paper industries). Evaluation was based on water content, free resin content, pH and dissolvability of the rosinsize. Results showed that better rosinsizes were obtained, by using sodium hydroxide based on the saponification number, instead of the acid number. However, in order to maintain the pH value, care should be taken, so as not to exceed the proper amount of sodium hydroxide. Compared with ordinary rosinsize, fortification with 3,8 - 5,8 percent anhydrous maleic acid have resulted in a rosinsize, which had lower free rosin content, slightly lower pH, and higher dissolvability.
